FISHING REPORT
UPDATED July 6, 2008
Hot summer weather (check NOAA forecast), has melted the majority of this winter's epic
snowpack and water levels around Durango,
have moderated significantly as a result.
(check current USGS river flow data)
With run-off conditions now a thing of the past,
Aaron Hyder of The Caddis Company
reports excellent fishing conditions on
the San Juan River.
Water clarity on the San Juan is above-average
with normal seasonal flows being released from
the dam. Fish are reported to be on the rise with
six fluorocarbon the order of the day currently.
Look for a strong midge hatch in the morning
and a Black Wing Olive (BWO) hatch in the evening.
In addition to stellar conditions on the San Juan,
fishing on the Animas River through town
is beginning to heat up with surface feeding
becoming normalized with the lessened flows
Look for water quality on the Animas to continue
to improve in the coming weeks, as well as
increased productivity in mountain streams and lakes.
Get out there and enjoy this summer!
